Due to the nature of our system, we recommend hirers and listers complete the following steps to make sure no overcharges occur.

Hirers

Picking up an item

When picking up an item, ensure that the lister lets you sign for the pickup.

Before signing, click ‘Condition Report’ and confirm with the lister that the condition matches the report. Request any defects to be added to the condition report before you hire.

Do not sign until you are satisfied with the condition report.

Returning an item

When returning an item, ensure that the lister has marked it as returned. Items must be marked as returned before 7pm, otherwise you’ll be charged for an additional day.

 

Listers

On Pickup

Ensure you’ve filled out the condition report prior to pickup.

Be clear with any existing damages or defects.

Make sure the person picking up the item matches their profile picture. If you are unsure, click call to confirm with the hirer.

 

Returning an item

When an item is returned, mark it as returned straight away. If there is any damage or defects, you can open an issue later. Failing to mark items as returned after they are returned is against our terms of use.

For the Lister

  • Make sure the photos you upload are clear, up-to-date and accurately show the condition of your items.
  • Make sure you only accept booking requests via the Booking tab. If you arrange to lend your item through the Messaging tab instead, you will not be protected by our Resolution Centre.
  • Do not share your contact details with other users in the Messaging system. If someone needs to get hold of you, they can select ‘Call’ in the Booking tab and contact you through our app.
  • When a hirer picks up your items, verify their identity using the photo in our app. Use the booking tab and select ‘Item Picked Up.’ If someone does not match their photo, does not arrive at your agreed time or is collecting on behalf of someone else, politely refuse to hire out your item. Contact us at contact@neighbourhire.com.au and explain the issue if you are unsure.
  • Specify any known imperfections with your item in the Condition Report. This is to make sure that if an item is damaged by a hirer, we can isolate the issue by comparing its pre and post-hire condition.
  • Show the Condition Report to the hirer before they take your item. It is important that they agree and sign to the condition of the item upon hire.
  • Do not hire your item out until after you press ‘Confirm Hire’ and the application confirms that the transaction has been processed. If the payment method is declined, inform the hirer and reattempt.
  • When an item is returned, open the app and select ‘Item Returned’. If the item is returned early, you will not lose any of the original payment. If the item is returned late, the hirer will be automatically charged a late fee at 6pm of every day that the item is overdue.
  • If your item is overdue to be returned and you have overlapping hirers, inform the upcoming hirers of the inconvenience, cancel their bookings, and ask them to rebook.
  • If an item is not returned or is returned damaged, contact us at contact@neighbourhire.com.au or open an issue immediately so we can resolve the issue as soon as possible.
  • It is your choice whether or not you want to hire out your items on a given day or to a given user. However, any form of discrimination, intolerance or hate speech is against our terms of service.

For the Hirer

  • Make sure your profile image clearly shows your face, and matches the identity of the license that you submit.
  • When hiring an item, make sure to clearly communicate with the lister and set an agreed-upon pickup time.
  • Do not share your contact details with other users in the Messaging system. If you need to call the lister of an item, select ‘Call’ in the Booking tab.
  • Select ‘Directions’ in the Booking tab to start directions to the pickup location.
  • You cannot pick up an item on behalf of someone else, or send someone to pick yours up for you.
  • When you receive an item, inspect its condition. Make sure any imperfections are listed in the Condition Report in the listers’ app. This prevents you from being blamed for issues that were already there.
  • When you have returned an item, make sure it shows up under ‘Completed Bookings’ rather than ‘On Hire’. If the lister does not mark the item as returned, you may face late fees. If this occurs, contact us at contact@neighbourhire.com.au as soon as possible so that we can resolve the error.
  • Leave honest and constructive feedback after the hiring so that we can create a closer, stronger community.
